Sub: Science City, Gender Cell, Chennai – 25 – ““Tamil Nadu Young Women Scientists Award – 2009” & “ Tamil Nadu Lifetime Achievement Award for Women- 2009” – Nomination Invited- Reg. Science city is an autonomous organization of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu involved in the promotion and Popularization of Science and Technology. Science City had instituted the Tamil Nadu Young Women Scientists and Lifetime Achievement Award for Women Achievers in the year 2000 and has been identifying and awarding the prestigious award on deserving women Scientists regularly. These awards are the first of its kind in the entire state of Tamil Nadu and are given as an honour in recognition of the outstanding research carried out by women scientists in Tamil Nadu in the field of Science and Technology under several disciplines such as (i) Agricultural Sciences (ii) Chemical Sciences (iii) Life Sciences (iv) Physical Sciences (v) Environmental Sciences including Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences (vi) Engineering & Technology (vii) Home/Social Sciences (viii) Mathematical Sciences (ix) Medical Sciences and Native Medicine and (x) Veterinary Sciences. The Tamil Nadu Young Women Scientist is awarded to four Women Scientists below the age of 40 years who have carried out exemplary work in any one of the above said fields. Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to a Women Scientist above the age of 60 years. This award will be bestowed on a Women Scientist who has contributed significantly in the field of Science and Technology through out their career. The awards carry cash prize and a citation. Applications are invited from Women Scientists of Tamil Nadu for the “Tamil Nadu Young Women Scientists – 2009” & “ Tamil Nadu Lifetime Achievement Award for Women- 2009”. Applications can be collected from the Office of the Science City, Planetarium Campus, Gandhi Mandapam Road, Chennai – 600 025 on all working days free of cost or can be downloaded from the Science City website www.sciencecitychennai.com The last date for submission of filled in nomination is 24th December 2009.
